AN ANALYSISIS OF STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN SPEECH

Berbicara merupakan salah satu keterampilan berbahasa yang paling penting oleh mahasiswa kebidanan. Namun, tidak semua mahasiswa mampu berbicara bahasa inggris. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menemukan kesulitan mahasiswa dalam berpidato. Metode descriptive digunakan dalam metode ini. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah 25 mahasiswa kebidanan semester lima STikes Paluta Husada. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada dua puluh siswa (80%) merasakan kesulitan ketika mengucapkan kata-kata dalam bahasa Inggris. Faktor kedua adalah tata bahasa, ada delapan belas (72%) siswa merasa sulit untuk berbicara bahasa Inggris menggunakan tata bahasa yang benar. Faktor ketiga adalah kosakata, ada tiga belas siswa (52%) merasa sulit untuk mengucapkan kosakata. Faktor keempat adalah kelancaran, ada delapan siswa (32%) tidak dapat berbicara dengan lancar. Faktor kelima adalah pemahaman, ada lima siswa (20%) merasa sulit untuk memahami isi pidato. Kesulitan lain dalam berbicara di depan umum adalah kurangnya kepercayaan diri dan tidak menguasai materi.
Speaking is one of the most crucial language skills that mustto express be mastered by midwifery student. However, not all midwifery students are able to speak English. This research aims to find out the students’ difficult in sspeech. Descriptive research was used in this study. The participants of the research were 25 midwifery students at five semester of STikes Paluta Husada in Academic year 2024/2025. The findings shows that There were twenty students (80%) felt the difficulties when pronouncing words in English. The second factor was grammar, there were eighteen (72%) students found it difficult to speak English using correct grammar. The third factor was vocabulary, there were thirteen students (52%) felt difficult to pronouncing the vocabularies. The fourth factor was fluency,there were eight students (32%) can’t speak fluently. The fifth factor was comprehension,there were five students (20%) found it difficult to understand the content of the speech .Another difficulties in public speaking are lack of self-confidence and not mastering the materials.
